Based on publicly available data and produced by The Center for Homeland Defense and Security (CHDS) is located at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA.
Since 2003, CHDS has conducted a wide range of programs focused on assisting current and emerging leaders in Homeland Defense and Security to develop the policies, strategies, programs and organizational elements needed to defeat terrorism and prepare for and respond to natural disasters and public safety threats across the United States.
The programs are developed in partnership with and are sponsored by the National Preparedness Directorate, FEMA.

A twenty-year cumulative studies report of both K-12 SSDB 1999 – 2019 and College and Universities 1999 – 2019 KIO combining the incidents occurring at both K-12 schools and colleges and universities from 1999 – 2019 resulting in persons killed or injured only (KIO).
Report Definitions:
Coordinated Attack – An attack perpetrated by two or more persons
Uncoordinated Attack – An attack perpetrated by a single individual
External Threat(s) – Person or persons originating from outside the school
Internal Threat(s) – Person or persons originating from inside the school
Proactive Measures Save Lives
A listing of more than fifty (50) incidents involving students, teachers, parents and other members of schools, colleges and universities where a deadly threat was prevented or thwarted as a direct result of proactive measures.
